Thomas Cook has seen a huge increase in consumer interest in booking trips to the Canary Islands after the destination was given a travel corridor with the UK.
The relaunched Cook online travel agency said that searches for Tenerife, Lanzarote, Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura had “skyrocketed” following the travel corridor announcement on Thursday (22 October).
Searches on Cook’s website rose by more than 20 times for the Canaries compared with the previous week.
“It looks like Brits are clamouring to flock south for the winter and demand for holidays in the sun-soaked Canaries has come at just the right time for people looking for a break,” said a Cook spokesperson.
“There are some great deals to be had and all of the islands offer a great choice of holiday, from budget options through to high-end all-inclusives.
“It’s perfect for families and couples looking to get away from it all and enjoy some well-deserved time in the sun.”
