A man who admitted robbing a string of travel agencies using knives and a replica gun could face a life sentence.
Alan Roberts, of Stowford Close, West Derby, was warned to expect a “long sentence” by Judge Denis Watson, QC during a hearing at Liverpool Crown Court October 13.
Roberts pleaded guilty to a number of raids between July and September this year during which he targeted stores across the UK including Moreton, West Kirby and Crosby.
He also struck at branches in Frodsham and Knutsford in Cheshire, Huddersfield, and in the Staffordshire village of Leek, The Liverpool Echo reports
The court heard how Roberts had brandished a gas-powered BB pistol and threatened staff during the incidents - although no employees were reported to have been hurt.
During the hearing, the forty four-year-old admitted six counts of robbery and one of attempted robbery as well as four counts of possession of an offensive weapon and one count of possession of an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.
Judge Watson said he required a pre-sentence report to consider which sentence Roberts would receive.
He announced that the case would be adjourned until November 1 to create the report and gather victim personal statements.
He told Roberts: “You are facing a long sentence. Really the only question is what type of sentence it is, whether it is necessary or compulsory to pass a life sentence, or whether it is necessary to impose an extended sentence.
“These are all matters that will be considered on the next occasion.”
