Travel Counsellor Lizzie Adamson-Brown came to the rescue of a couple’s wedding and honeymoon to Mexico, which was cancelled after Thomas Cook’s collapse.
Becky Caitland and Steve Lister, from Plymouth, looked set to miss out on their dream wedding and honeymoon in Cancun next month after losing their hotel and flights booked through Cook.
Northumbria-based Adamson-Brown stepped in, though, after being tagged in a Twitter post following the couple’s appearance on BBC News when they shared their plight with newsreader Huw Edwards.
Adamson-Brown, who was previously a Cook wedding planner in Cyprus, spent three days working to reinstate the couple’s wedding at the Hard Rock Hotel and rebooking them and the rest of their wedding party on British Airways flights.
“It was three days of hard work going backwards and forwards,” she told TTG. “I can’t take all the credit for it – the team at our head office were amazing and they were able to use their direct contacts with the Hard Rock.
“We’ve been able to reinstate everything, including all the original special requests Becky and Steve had made."
Adamson-Brown also managed to rebook five seats for the couple and their guests on the original BA flights to Mexico.
“All of the family have chipped in to pay for everything,” she added. “Since it’s all been sorted out, I’ve had calls from every member of the family to thank me.
“I’ve was so happy to help, as Becky was in tears at time. I sent a box of fizz and chocolates to them with a note saying they can now get back into wedding planning mode.”
Travel Counsellors was also able to secure similar prices to those originally paid by the couple.
“I’ve not been finding hugely inflated prices,” she added. “Suppliers are going out of their way to help Thomas Cook clients with bookings. The industry is holding together.”
Adamson-Brown has also been invited to the couple’s post-honeymoon party in Plymouth when they return from Mexico.
Caitland praised Adamson-Brown efforts: “Lizzie was constantly updating me via email as she knew how anxious I was to try to sort things. Nothing was ever too much and I always knew Lizzie was at the end of the phone.
“As our money was tied up with Thomas Cook, Lizzie managed to have this deal secured for 48 hours to give us time find the funds. We were overjoyed.”
