South London’s Travel Designers has slashed the use of printed brochures by “up to 90%” since bringing in the 50in screens earlier this month.
Agents at the Balham-based store, named London’s best in TTG’s Top 50 Agencies 2018, have access to a digital database of videos for some 250 hotels and resorts to present to clients who visit.
Travel Designers now aims to expand the database with PDF formats of tour operator brochures it has previously stocked, and use USB sticks that contain booking quotes to give to customers.
Nick Harding-McKay, managing director, told TTG he would encourage other agencies to follow the approach.
“It’s a nice way for us to stand out, but we really just wanted to use digital more and do our bit for the environment,” he said. “We could all look to cut down our waste in travel, and brochures are a big part of that.”
Harding-McKay said although the agency would still keep a small number of printed brochures to use for off-site events such as wedding fares, the approach had saved Travel Designers and its suppliers “a lot of trees and money”.
