Enthusiastic members of the TTG Media team have lined up a number of ambitious events in a bid to raise cash for Alzheimer’s Society this year.
TTG Media selects a new charity to support each year, decided by a staff vote. So far, the team has received almost £6,000 in donations – via a Memory Walk, Christmas carol singing and more – but wants to raise much more.
Four members of the TTG team – news editor Jennifer Morris, deputy news editor James Chapple and deputy features editor Abra Dunsby – will take part in a sky-dive over Peterborough on Saturday, March 9. Special projects editor Madeleine Barber is also due to jump later in the year. Between them, the team has set a fundraising target of £2,000.
Dunsby revealed she was determined despite her initial fears: “I really hate heights, but raising money for charity is all about putting yourself out of your comfort zone.
“To be honest, all of us taking part are pretty nervous about the sky-dive, but we’re determined to raise as much money as possible for a brilliant cause.”
Meanwhile, senior reporter Tom Parry will take on the London Marathon on Sunday, April 28 to raise £2,000 in memory of his “taid” (a Welsh word for grandfather), having never run further than 10k in his life.
“Despite thinking I’m a sporting icon each year at TTG Sports Day, I’m actually a bit of a slob, but things are changing,” said Parry.
“Dementia is the biggest health threat facing our society, and there are currently no effective treatments to slow, prevent or cure it.
“Having watched my taid develop dementia in the years before he passed away, I know the pain it creates, so the fight against it is a cause I’m proud to support.”
In 2019, Alzheimer’s Society and Alzheimer’s Research UK are joining forces for the Dementia Revolution, a year-long campaign to power ground-breaking dementia research, overthrow old attitudes and lead the charge towards a cure.
