Tui has taken one step further to going green with the delivery of its first Boeing 737 Max 8 partially powered by bio jet fuel.
The flight from Boeing’s base in Seattle to Stockholm was performed with 30% blend biofuel and the aircraft will now join the Tui Nordic fleet.
It is also the second 737 Max 8 to be delivered to the airline and is one of 72 of the Max 8s and 10s to be delivered to the Tui fleet by 2023.
Nor is its biofuel technology the only one of its green credentials; the aircraft has a 14% lower kerosene consumption and is 40% quieter
Tui Nordic managing director Alex Huber said: “We are committed to collaborating on projects and partnerships that help scale up sustainable aviation fuels.
"Seeing the Nordic countries are at the forefront of sustainable development, it is very fitting that our very first MAX flight on bio jet fuel touched ground here."
He added by the end of the year Tui Group will have taken delivery of nine 737 Max 8s with some of the aircraft earmarked for UK operations.
