An earthquake has struck an Italian island popular with tourists, leaving two dead and 39 others injured.
A seven month baby has also been pulled from rubble, with rescuers reportedly working to free his two brothers, according to officials.
The 4.0 magnitude quake struck at 8.57pm last night on the island of Ischia, which lies off the coast of Naples and is described as being “extremely popular with tourists”, the BBC said.
Extra ferries from Naples to Ischia continued during the night, bringing rescue workers to the island and enabling holidaymakers to leave. Italian media reported that some tourists were sleeping on benches as they waited for boats to arrive.
An elderly woman was reportedly killed by debris which fell from a church, while another was found in the rubble of a building.
The Italian Red Cross has confirmed that it is working with local authorities.
