Voyages to Antiquity axes 10 summer cruises citing engine troubles

The line has confirmed Aegean Odyssey will undergo a period in dry dock for repairs to its starboard engine. As many as 3,500 passengers could be affected by the cancellations.

Passengers who were due to set off on the line’s 12-day Black Sea and Greek Islands cruise on 2 May were told of the cancellation just two days in advance, the BBC reports.

The ship’s current Athens to Athens Greek islands roundtrip, which departed on 26 April, has continued as scheduled.

“Unfortunately, Voyages to Antiquity regrets to inform guests that it has been forced to cancel 10 cruises aboard Aegean Odyssey in the upcoming season,” said the line in a statement. “During this time, the ship will undergo a repair to her starboard engine.

“Voyages to Antiquity would like to apologise for the inconvenience these cancellations will cause to our guests. The mechanical issue experienced was unavoidable and unforeseeable.

“All guests affected by these cancellations are being contacted and will be provided with a full refund of payments made. We are working closely with our trade partners and doing everything possible to minimise disruption.”

The line added it expected Aegean Odyssey to re-enter service to sail the rest of its scheduled cruise timetable, starting with its Rome-Venice and association Grand Voyage itineraries departing 7 September.
