Westoe appeal tops £30,000

Fundraising for the families of Westoe Travel apprentice Chloe Rutherford and boyfriend Liam Curry, killed in the Manchester Arena attack, will continue following more pledges from the industry.

Westoe appeal

"We’re keeping the fund open... people are still having fundraising events and the families still have challenges"

The fund has now topped £30,000 following a prize draw last week that saw travel firms make 57 separate donations including flights, city breaks and shopping vouchers.

Westoe director Graeme Brett said support from the industry had been “phenomenal”.

The fund’s original target of £10,000 was quickly reached and increased to £20,000 before the final figure was met after the prize draw.

“We’re keeping the fund open because a lot of people are still having fundraising events and the families still have challenges,” he said.

“It’s really heart-warming; the families are very emotional about how much love and support there has been and have said what a lovely industry Chloe worked in.”

Brett said many from the industry who had donated had also attended the couple’s funeral in June. “A lot of them came a long way,” he added.
