Wizz Air is continuing its European expansion with news that Austria is the 44th country to join its network.
The low-cost carrier will open a new base at Vienna Airport in June with an Airbus A320 before adding two Airbus A321 aircraft in November.
This growth of Wizz Air’s Vienna base will see Wizz Air operate a total of 17 new routes from the Austrian capital in 2018.
The base establishment represents an investment by Wizz Air of $331 million.
Jozsef Váradi, chief executive at Wizz Air, said: “Today, everything changes for Austrian travellers. For the first time, truly low fares arrive in Vienna.
“Wizz Air’s Austrian customers now have the opportunity to travel from Vienna on an extensive network of routes to Europe and beyond at the lowest prices and experience Wizz Air’s great service onboard one of Europe’s youngest fleets.”
