More than 60% of travel’s young rising talent consider industry salaries to be lagging behind those offered by other sectors.
However despite this, 81% plan to spend their entire working life in the industry, according to new research conducted by TTG Media.
The findings, which studied responses from around 90 members of TTG’s 30 Under 30 initiative, were revealed during WTM London as part of the TTG Tomorrow’s Travel Leaders Conference.
It was the first time the forum which is designed to inspire and advise the next generation of senior travel professionals, was held at the trade show.
Presenting the research to delegates, Daniel Pearce, managing director of TTG Media and group editor, Pippa Jacks, revealed that 70% of respondents, whose experience working in travel sector ranged between one to 13 years, would consider launching their own travel business.
The pair also reported that, in spite of the perceived lower pay offering while working in travel, 100% would encourage a young person beginning their career to join the travel sector.
During the Tomorrow’s Travel Leaders Conference delegates also heard from a number of high profile industry figures including Jeannette Linfoot, managing director Saga Tour Operating, Brian Young, managing director EMEA, G Adventures and Jennifer Atkinson, chief executive of ITC Travel Group.
Travel Counsellors founder, David Speakman, was also asked for his insights in building a travel brand during a conversation with 30 Under 30 members, Nathan Cable, co-founder, Party Hard Travel and Georgia Lewis, business development manager for Travelsphere and Just You.
