The new seats, known as the The Room and The Suite, feature on the first of 12 redesigned Boeing 777-300ER aircraft with eight first class and 64 business class seats onboard.

ANA’s cabins have been redesigned by architect Kengo Kuma alongside UK design firm Acumen.

The Suite in first class includes new privacy doors plus a 43-inch 4K (ultra high definition) personal TV monitor (the first 4K personal screen on a commercial aircraft), while The Room in business class features flexible doors for privacy and a wider sofa.

Both seats will benefit from new lights, which have been custom-made by Panasonic for ANA, while seat mattresses and bedding have been created in partnership with Nishikawa.

Premium economy and economy seats have also been given new upholstery featuring Japanese patterns.

Hideki Kunugi, executive vice-president of ANA, said: “In order for ANA to continue to lead and set the global standard for comfort and convenience, we knew it would be necessary to integrate the latest insights from design professionals as we sought to redesign the flight experience and elevate every aspect of travel for our passengers.”
