Sandals Resorts International is in talks to open up its first property outside the Caribbean.
US media outlets have reported that the all-inclusive resort operator is set to expand into Riviera Maya on the Caribbean coast of Mexico.
A spokesperson confirmed that the company was “in deep discussions” and was “optimistic about Mexico” but gave no further details.
Sandals opened its most recent resort on the Caribbean island of Barbados early last year.
It also operates adults-only Sandals resorts in Jamaica, Bahamas, Grenada, Antigua and St Lucia, with family-focused Beaches resorts in Jamaica and Turks & Caicos.
A move into Mexico would herald the eighth destination for the company, and its first in a non-island destination.
