A social network for travellers is to donate at least 5% of its revenues to support a leading organization that fights poverty in trade.
Glasgow based talkholiday has also introduced a Smart Partnership programme, which will enable existing or future partners to match its donation to Traidcraft.
Talkholiday’s chief executive Chris Newlands said: “We are proud to support Traidcraft. This collaboration gives our team a defined additional purpose whereby we encourage responsible tourism.
“I have always instigated a need for both value and values in our company and this helps us cement that.”
Traidcraft said it would use the donations to work with some of the poorest farmers across the world to help them grow their businesses and capacity. It will also help them to find sustainable markets.
Larry Bush, Traidcraft’s marketing director said: “Receiving support from like-minded organisations such as talkholiday means we can increase public support for our life-changing work, helping the world’s poorest people build sustainable lives through trade.
“Last year alone, we helped nearly 700,000 farmers across the developing world improve their skills, allowing them to realise greater income and afford a better future for themselves and their families.”
Last year, talkholiday unveiled a free crisis support feature to support travellers affected by natural disasters and to help those who had lost their passports, mobile phones or bags while on holiday.
