Staff at cruise specialist WTH are walking the distance from the UK to Miami in aid of a local children’s hospice.
The 22-day challenge, set to finish on 5 December, will see the team reach more than nine million steps to help Chorley’s Derian House Children’s Hospice.
The WTH team, whose brands include Cruise118.com, SixStarCruises and RiverVoyages.com, are walking the equivalent of the transatlantic journey as part of the Isolation Nation initiative to encourage better mental health and social interaction during the pandemic.
The team is on course to overshoot the distance to the US cruise hub and walk the equivalent of a journey to the Caribbean by the time they finish.
Alison Earnshaw, WTH UK managing director, is leader for one of the five teams.
“We have team spirit in abundance at WTH (UK) and this is just one way we are able to come together for a great cause, whilst helping our health and mental well-being at the same time,” she said.
“The spirit of the challenge is to welcome all and encourage everyone to achieve by committing to their own personal pledge, whether that’s 10,000 or 30,000 steps a day.”
