The outbreak of the Zika virus in South America and parts of the Caribbean has yet to have a major impact on business travel to the region.
Travel management companies speaking at the show insisted they had not seen a significant drop in corporate travel since the outbreak, which has been linked to causing birth defects in babies.
Adam Knights, UK managing director of ATPI, said: “There’s definitely a level of apprehension and we are watching it carefully. People have not cancelled their corporate travel to these areas but they are aware of what the issue is.
ATPI is also the official seller of travel packages from the Netherlands to the Olympics in Rio this August. Knights said that the company had not seen forward bookings being affected.
American Express Global Business Travel’s Jason Geall added: “We have not seen any impact on volumes but it’s an area of concern for travel managers.”
