The annual World Pride – billed as the largest lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender event globally – will be held in the Spanish capital next summer, and the city is keen to promote it to the travel industry.
The LGBT Village – hosted by LGBT trade group Out Now Business Class (ONBC) – is returning for its sixth year to WTM London, November 7-9.
The space is designed to help industry professionals better service the needs of the LGBT community.
ONBC chief executive Ian Johnson said: “Madrid enjoys a well-earned reputation as a welcoming destination that embraces diversity — and the annual Madrid Pride has become a must-see event on the global LGBT tourism calendar.
“The global travel industry is going to make many valuable business connections with the city of Madrid as well as World Pride Madrid 2017.”
World Pride 2017 will begin with an opening ceremony on June 22, 2017 and will run until July 2.
Highlights will include an International Human Rights Conference, June 26-28, and an International Culture Festival.
Manuel Santiago, marketing and promotion coordinator World Pride Madrid 2017 from the tourist office Madrid Destino, said: “This is a powerful opportunity for us to connect with key members of the global tourism industry to help them make sure they take full advantage of all we are doing.”
WTM London’s senior exhibition director, Simon Press, added: “The growth of the LGBT Village is something we are strongly committed to and by working with ONBC we continue to see new successes each year.”
