Carnival Cruise Line has revealed it is the first cruise line to embark 10 million guests from the port of Galveston, Texas.
The line welcomed Marsha Taulton and her husband, from Houston, onboard Carnival Breeze with an impromptu celebration to mark the occasion.
The milestone comes following an expansion of Carnival departures from the port. This began with the introduction of its flagship Carnival Jubilee, which in February this year became the first new cruise ship to be christened in Galveston.
From October, Carnival Miracle will sail from Galveston and complete a four-ship deployment. By the end of 2024, Carnival’s guest capacity in Galveston is expected to increase by 20 per cent compared to last year, carrying more than 800,000 guests.
Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line, said: “This is an achievement that speaks to the success of our longstanding partnership with the port and the greater Galveston community. We are grateful to our guests who have sailed with us from Galveston over the past two decades, continually driving the popularity of this homeport forward. The future is certainly bright, as we’re delighted to welcome more guests aboard than ever before from this great city. Next stop, 20 million.”
Carnival launched a year-round cruise programme from the port in 2000, offering a variety of itineraries to destinations across the Caribbean and The Bahamas.
