Hummingbird Travel has held its first trade appreciation day at Henley Royal Regatta, celebrating its top agents at the event as it continues to see a growth in luxury business.
The London-based Indian Ocean specialist features the Maldives, Sri Lanka, Mauritius and Seychelles, providing room bookings and ground handling support to a growing number of operators and agents.
Partnering with Conrad Maldives for the event, trade guests were introduced to what has been dubbed as the “world’s first underwater residence”, The Muraka.
Opened at the Conrad at the turn of this year, The Muraka is a two-level, three-bedroom residence which includes an undersea bedroom and living space, with Hummingbird one of the first partners to sell The Muraka.
Hummingbird has been engaging in more digital activity to grow its trade base, including holding regular webinars for agents to share updates on resorts in the Indian Ocean, and joint chief executive Alex Chambers highlighted the increase in bookings the company was seeing in the ultra-luxury sector; the company is also now featuring two properties in Madagascar – Constance Tsarabanjina and Time+Tide Miavana.
The event was held at The Navigators, a private residence overlooking the finish line at Henley, with 30 of Hummingbird’s top agents attending and also getting the chance to meet Olympic rowing silver medallist Victoria Thornley (pictured above with Tom and Alex Chambers).
“Given this year’s success, we hope to be making the Hummingbird event at the Henley Royal Regatta a regular fixture in our summer season,” said fellow chief executive Tom Chambers.
