UKinbound has urged the government to reach a decision over Heathrow expansion following suggestions that an official response will be postponed until 2016, reports Karl Tomusk
Deirdre Wells, chief executive of UKinbound, said the trade association is “extremely concerned” about a delayed decision about the Airports Commission report.
The commission, led by Sir Howard Davies, recommended building a new runway at Heathrow to expand the UK’s aviation market, but there has been no official answer from the government.
Wells said: “We need the government to show leadership and make a decision by the end of 2015 as originally promised.
“We are extremely concerned at the government’s decision to further delay their response to the Davies commission."
The group also called for greater investment in tourism, adding that visitors to the UK brought in £22 billion in 2014 and 70% of them travelled by air.
Wells said that because tourism is the UK’s third biggest employer, the industry needs more government support.
"An investment in our international and domestic connectivity is fundamental to securing long-term economic growth and employment.”
