New Zealand is renowned for its vast array of action-packed activities from skydiving and glacier hiking to white water rafting and bungee jumps. Now there’s a new kid on the block, the Nevis Catapult. The latest invention from the team behind the AJ Hackett bungee catapults thrill-seekers 150 metres across a valley at about 60 miles per hour. The Nevis Catapult is located in Queenstown on the South Island and will be available for the trade to sell next year.

2. The iconic abseil

Cape Town’s Table Mountain is one of Africa’s most iconic sights, and while many visitors ascend and descend via cable car, thrill-seeking types can up the ante by trying the world’s highest abseil, down the monolith itself. Debbie Goffin, Premier Holidays’ sales and marketing director, has tried it herself. She says: “The experience is thrilling, exhilarating and also a little bit terrifying, but there’s nothing like feeling that you’re on top of the world. “The abseil starts at 300 metres above sea level and you get a brilliant bird’s eye view of the beaches and bays of Cape Town if you dare to look around.”
Book it: Premier Holidays has a 10-night South Africa trip from £1,598pp, including four nights in Cape Town with a Table Mountain abseil experience. Price includes flights and seven days’ car hire.
