Celebrity Cruises UK boss Jo Rzymowska has been named as the top travel figure in the annual list of the top 100 LGBT people in business.
The list is compiled by non-profit networking group OUTstanding, which campaigns for LGBT rights in the workplace, and published by the Financial Times.
UK and Ireland managing director of Celebrity Cruises Jo Rzymowska ranked 38, while a number of other travel figures were also named.
Andrew Williams-Fry, chief economist at Gatwick Airport ranked 42, and Jonathan Mildenhall, chief marketing officer at Airbnb came in at 44. Sadiq Gillani, senior vice-president and chief strategy officer of Lufthansa was 57.
Top of the overall list was Christopher Bailey, chief executive of Burberry.
It is the second time that the list has been compiled, this time doubling in length.
The founder of OUTstanding Suki Sandhu said the methodology was based on asking what nominees had done inside and outside the workplace to make it more welcoming to LGBT individuals.
It also examines information about the candidate’s influence within the business as well as recent significant achievements, the Financial Times reported.
“We favoured people who were active in inclusion as well as movers and shakers”.
However Sandhu insisted there is still “a way to go” in achieving equality.
“It is disappointing to see women filling only 24% of the list and Black, Minority Ethnic nominees are wildly under-represented. We have only three transgender representatives on the list, all of whom transitioned from male to female. We do not have anyone we are aware of who publicly identifies as bisexual. Much work is still to be done.”
Sandhu said the organisation had also introduced an “ally leaders list” – with people who are not LGBT, but who have been active in ensuring their organisations were welcoming places for LGBT staff.
Again familiar faces from the travel sector were named. Thomas Cook chief executive Harriet Green was part of the advisory panel, which decided the top 100 LGBT list, while Richard Branson who was named number one of the “allies list”, with Sandhu insisting that he had been “supporting the gay community for very many years”.
