Aer Lingus is poised to confirm Las Vegas as its latest US route, with plans to start flying from Dublin next winter.
The service will initially be winter-only and operate two or three times a week, the carrier’s chief executive Stephen Kavanagh indicated to Irish media. Final confirmation is expected in the next few days and comes shortly after the airline revealed it will start flying to Miami in September.
Aer Lingus has made it known that its long-haul expansion strategy is entirely westwards to North America. Last year, it resumed services to Los Angeles and launched routes to Newark and Hartford. By the end of this year, Aer Lingus will offer 12 destinations in North America.
The carrier fills its flights from Dublin using connections on Aer Lingus Regional from 19 airports around the UK and by using its mainline short-haul routes throughout Europe. Its selling point for its US flights is the pre-clearance of US immigration at Dublin.
