Strike action at Heathrow airport today and tomorrow (7 and 8 May) has been called off.
Union Unite has postponed stoppages “to allow meaningful, last-minute talks”. The remaining days of strike action from 9-13 May are still due to go ahead pending the outcome of any further negotiations.
Unite regional officer Wayne King said: “Heathrow Airport and Unite have been in discussions and as a goodwill gesture prior to formal talks early next we have suspended strike action on the Tuesday and Wednesday.
“We are calling on Heathrow to recognise the anger among our members over proposed outsourcing plans and to think again.”
Unite said nearly 800 members were due to take part in action. The dispute centres on plans to outsource staff who assist passengers with connections, plus employees with trolley collection roles and security personnel.
