Previously, guests could also bring beer or spirits on to P&O Cruises ships, but as of 7 May, this policy has been amended. The new onboard alcohol allowance applies to all passengers aged 18 and over, or those who are 21 and older in US ports embarking the ship for the first time.
A P&O Cruises spokesperson said: “We regularly review our policies in line with the cruise industry and we are making the change to adhere more closely to our health, environment, safety and security guidelines around our responsibility to serve alcohol.”
The P&O Cruises website reads: “We believe responsible drinking is a valued and enjoyable part of a cruise. However, we ask our policy for the responsible consumption of alcohol is adhered to at all times.
“We reserve the right to deny access to the ship to anyone who appears to be heavily under the influence of alcohol. We may also confiscate alcohol in the terminal and at the gangway.”
P&O Cruises currently operates seven ships – Arcadia, Arvia, Aurora, Azura, Britannia, Iona and Ventura.
Last month, Britannia set sail from Southampton following a £10 million makeover, which included a refreshed colour palette and an extension of the Loyalty and Cruise Sales area.
