The German National Tourist Office (GNTO) has appointed Beatrix Haun has its new director for the UK and Ireland.
She was previously director of the German National Tourist Board (GNTB) in France and will succeed Klaus Lohmann in the role.
Haun began her career as an apprentice travel trade consultant with the GNTB in Frankfurt from 1978 to 1981 and held a number of roles at the GNTB’s head office until 1985, when she became deputy director in Paris before assuming full management responsibilities in 2003.
From 2008 to 2011, Haun was head of the GNTBs office in Vienna, before returning to the French capital in 2011 where she has since held the position of director.
Haun said: “The UK and Ireland are ranked among the most important source markets for incoming tourism to Germany. I look forward to developing further our highly successful work in the UK and Ireland for destination Deutschland.”
The UK is Germany’s third largest European source market for tourism and last year the destination recorded 5.6 million overnight stays by British visitors.
The Republic of Ireland registered 476,115 overnight stays in Germany during 2016 - a year-on-year rise of 9.3%.
