Royal Caribbean International’s latest ship, Quantum of the Seas, has sailed into Southampton ahead of a showcase weekend with more than 500 UK and Irish travel agents.
The trade will get a chance to experience the ship’s attractions and features first-hand before the first paying guests arrive.
The arrival of Quantum comes five months ahead of the arrival of sister ship Anthem of the Seas, which will be based in Southampton for an eight-month season next year.
Stuart Leven, managing director, UK and Ireland, Royal Caribbean International, said: “We’re really excited to showcase the brand new Quantum of the Seas to our UK and Ireland travel partners and events this weekend ensure that they see first-hand the step change in cruising that our innovative ships deliver.
“The features on-board – from dodgems to skydiving and more – simply have to be seen to be believed.
“It is an incredible opportunity to ensure agents are familiar and confident about selling our ships ahead of the launch of Anthem of the Seas next year.”

Features onboard Quantum of the Seas include the NorthStar, a glass capsule that extends 300ft above sea level from the ship and rotates to offer 360 degree views.
Further highlights include radio-frequency-identification luggage tracking, virtual balconies, the fastest internet at sea and robot bar tenders.
Entertainment ranges from digital robotic screen extravaganzas supporting light projection and dance shows, to the full West End version of Mamma Mia. Guests can also enjoy dodgems, skydiving, rock climbing and more than 18 restaurants including Jamie Oliver’s first foray into dining experiences at sea.
Leven added: “Throughout this year we have been ramping up our investment in agents, and we are heading towards 2015 at a whole new pace.”
Agents will join a two-night showcase cruise on-board Quantum of the Seas from Southampton, before the ship sails to New York on November 2 to be officially named and based in the city.
From June 2015 it will then move to Shanghai, China.
