Travel Counsellors will be raising awareness about the support available for its agents and head office staff during Mind’s Time to Talk national awareness day today (February 2).
The day encourages people to talk about issues around mental health.
Travel Counsellors will hold a special TCTV broadcast with psychologist Gillian Johnson who will talk about how to maintain and improve mental wellbeing, and this will be the start of an “ongoing programme of support in this area”.
The broadcast will include key information on how wellbeing can impact mental health and the five pathways to wellbeing.
Travel Counsellors held mindfulness workshops at its recent annual conference and its TCs fed back that they would like further support in this area including online resources on mental wellbeing; training on mental health awareness and supporting colleagues; training to support their own wellbeing; and more focused support such as counselling.
As a result of this feedback, a dedicated area is being launched on Travel Counsellors’ intranet that hosts information about health and wellbeing, including regular pilates classes; resources to help solves stresses with mindfulness; and a library of relaxation and meditation techniques.
There is also a free face-to-face counselling service available to all.
“In addition, we’re working with Mind to develop a programme of support that may include training for head office support staff, and other initiatives such as healthy eating for a healthy mind,” said a Travel Counsellors spokesperson.
“The wellbeing programme is available globally with country-specific support in each market.”
