Road closures near Manchester airport could spell traffic chaos for holidaymakers during the Easter break.
The A556 will close both ways between junctions 7 and 19 at the Bowdon roundabout – within three miles of the airport, which is the UK’s busiest outside London.
Closures will begin from March 29 and continue till April 29 with work taking place between 9pm and 5am each day.
Motorists heading to the airport on the M6 Northbound are advised to head for junction 20, where they should turn left towards junction 10 after which they should turn back on themselves to get on the M56 Eastbound then follow signs to Manchester Airport exiting at junction 5.
Local travel industry member Ken Garrity, told TTG: “People who are travelling up from the south from areas like Birmingham, Stoke and Wrexham might not know about it and I wouldn’t want people getting up here at 3am and finding that the road is closed.
“These days the busiest check-in time for airports is between 3am and 6am meaning people will be on the roads during all the closures.
“Last time this happened they were removing a bridge over the M56 and there were 10 mile tailbacks and missed flights.”
