Spend the night on the piste
April HutchinsonTravellers who can’t bear the thought of leaving the slopes during their ski holiday can now spend the night literally on the piste.
Said to be a world-first, the one-bedroom “suite” has been created within a snow groomer – a giant vehicle also known as a piste basher – that would normally spend its time ensuring snow is groomed ready for a fresh crop of skiers.
Called Over the Moon, the suite sits on the Arpette Summit, at 2,400m and offers the kind of “off-the-grid” retreat more and more travellers are seeking.
Guests will start their stay in style, being transported via chauffeur-driven Jaguar to Plagne Bellecote, then onwards to the summit in another snow groomer, getting them prepared for what lies ahead for the night.
The suite is fitted with a queen-sized bed, spa bath, flat-screen TV, stereo, and coffee machine. Guests enjoy a bottle of Champagne and fresh macarons on arrival, and even a complimentary ‘Lovebox’ gift, including an erotic board game, feather and massage oil. Panoramic windows offer views out over the mountains, while a transparent ceiling allows for star gazing from the bed.
Guests are left alone at the summit overnight, but have a radio for communication if needed, and a breakfast of fresh pastries and coffee is delivered in the morning before the couple is collected for a transfer back to the resort.
One night in Over the Moon with breakfast costs from €320 for two, with the experience available until April 28 and bookable through the tourist office’s website. La Plagne can be reached via flights to Geneva.
