What is the best way to get to your destination?

Visitors from the UK can fly into Orlando International airport and then hire a car. It’s then about an 80-minute drive to New Smyrna Beach, depending on the traffic. 

What are the must-see sights or must-do activities?

Just an hour’s drive from Orlando, New Smyrna Beach offers a lush tropical landscape and 17 miles of white sand. Charming Canal Street, beachy Flagler Avenue and lively 3rd Avenue are lined with unique stores, independent eateries and buzzing bars. 

The Indian River Lagoon, North America’s most diverse estuary system, home to more than 4,000 species of plants, animals, birds and marine life, runs through the city. 

New Smyrna Beach’s creative spirit is witnessed in its art and music festivals, artist workshops and local galleries.

Must-do activities include riding a beach bike along the unbroken Atlantic coast sands, kayaking on the Intracoastal Waterway (a network of canals, river and bays), or learning about the area’s wildlife at the Marine Discovery Center.

This combination of characteristics means the area generally caters for couples and older travellers.

What are the accommodation options?

There are two main hotels in the city: Springhill Suites, which has direct beachfront access at the end of Flagler Avenue, and a well-positioned Hampton Inn, a little further down the street. Both offer onsite parking, have swimming pools and fitness centres and offer great access to the shops and bars on Flagler Avenue. There are also a great selection of guest houses and holiday homes available for rent year-round via the UK trade.  

When should clients visit?

The shoulder seasons (May/June and October) in Florida are always a good time to visit, when it’s that little bit cooler and it’s outside of the main summer season. There are numerous festivals and craft fairs that come to life many weeks of the year and show what the destination has to offer.

How long should clients stay?

Many visitors choose to stay two or three days and just want to relax and enjoy the easy-going nature of the area. New Smyrna Beach is a great inclusion on a Florida fly-drive itinerary.
