A man filmed racially abusing a woman aboard a Ryanair aircraft has been identified, police have said.
Essex Police confirmed on Tuesday (October 23) it had identified the parties involved in the incident, which was caught on camera by a fellow passenger while the aircraft was on the stand in Barcelona on Friday (October 19) ahead of its return flight to Stansted airport.
The force added details have been passed to authorities in Spain, who are leading the investigation.
An Essex Police spokesperson said: “We have worked to identify both parties involved in this incident and passed this information to the Spanish authorities, who are leading on this investigation.
"Our officers will continue to provide assistance where necessary throughout the course of this case."
Ryanair has been criticised for not removing the man from the aircraft and instead moving the woman, 79-year-old Delsie Gayle, to another seat.
Following the incident, the airline said it had informed the police. The BBC reports Ryanair has also contacted Gayle’s family.
