Tunisia poised to relax entry rules for vaccinated travellers

Tunisia is poised to relax its Covid entry rules tomorrow – dropping the requirement for fully vaccinated adults to show a negative test.

The Tunisian Embassy in London confirmed that from Tuesday (15 February), all fully vaccinated travellers over 18 would be made exempt from the need to test “if they can present a certificate to prove they have been fully vaccinated or a vaccine pass”.

All travellers over the age of six who are not fully vaccinated, must take either a PCR test, less than 48 hours before travel, or a rapid lateral flow test less than 24 hours before travel and show dated evidence of a negative result before they check in for their flight.

Travellers over six may be randomly tested with either a PCR or antigen on arrival by the Tunisian authorities.

Those who receive a positive result they will be required to self-isolate for five days, with the period extended to seven days in case of any “emerging or persisting symptoms”.

In an update to its advice, the Foreign Office said that from 15 February “if you are vaccinated, you will need to present official evidence of your vaccinations, but you will no longer be required to provide a PCR or rapid test to enter the country”.

The FCDO said travellers who have not been vaccinated would no longer be required to isolate.

They must however take either a PCR test less than 48 hours before travel or a rapid lateral flow test less than 24 hours before travel and carry dated evidence of a negative result, which must include a QR code.

In response to the rules being eased, Tunisian carrier Nouvelair has added a third Gatwick-Tunis service from May.

The airline will start a twice-weekly service from Gatwick to the Tunisian capital from 29 March, while a twice-weekly service from Manchester to Monastir will begin in May.
