Across Asia, secluded islands, outstanding resorts and lesser-known coastlines offer fresh winter-sun options.
David Kevan, Director at CHIC Locations, and John Parker, Product Manager at Premier Holidays – both Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) UK & Ireland Asia experts – share their recommendations.
“On a worldwide scale, South East Asia probably offers the very best value for winter sun,” says David. “The quality on offer, at every level of accommodation and especially at the luxury end, is truly outstanding.”
Thailand offers more than Phuket. Khao Lak has beautiful beaches and a relaxed pace, while Koh Yao Yai retains its traditional island character. Koh Samet combines well with Bangkok, and Koh Lipe offers winter sunshine and ferry links to Malaysia.
In Malaysia, Langkawi ranges from luxury at The Datai to more affordable Berjaya, while John recommends secluded Pangkor Laut. The Eastern & Oriental Express also offers its Essence of Malaysia itinerary from November to March.
Cambodia’s offshore islands offer what David calls “simple chic elegance”. In Vietnam, Mui Ne pairs with Ho Chi Minh City, Phu Quoc suits those seeking developed resorts, and Con Dao offers a quieter escape.
Bali remains an option for flexible travellers. John says “winter weather is less predictable, but visitors can benefit from fewer crowds, quieter resorts and spectacularly green rice terraces around Ubud”.
City-and-beach combinations include Bangkok with a Thai island, Singapore with Langkawi, or Ho Chi Minh City with southern Vietnam.
David highlights winter demand at The Sarojin, Layana, Pimalai and The Datai. John advises booking the preferred beach hotel first and building the itinerary around it. Improved air capacity, including Virgin Atlantic’s Phuket services, offers more options, but peak-season availability remains limited. Chinese New Year begins on 6 February 2027.
With hotel offers and added-value packages available, John expects October to be a strong booking month for winter 2026/27. Pacific Asia offers plenty beyond the familiar winter-sun favourites.
