What began as Carlo Cinque’s dream in a quiet fishing village has become one of the world’s most enchanting destinations, where every detail tells a story of family, vision and enduring passion.

Since opening its doors in 1970, Il San Pietro has grown into a global icon, celebrated not only for its spectacular cliffside location and panoramic views of the Amalfi Coast, but for the quiet elegance and sense of intimacy that define every guest experience. From world leaders to artists and long-time regulars, it has become a cherished retreat for those seeking something truly special.

“This place is much more than a hotel,” says Agostino Piccolo, Director of Sales and Marketing, who has been part of the team for 25 years. “It’s a home, a legacy, and a reflection of the love and dedication of every person who has walked through its doors, guests and staff alike. Our greatest reward has always been the people who return year after year, and the stories we share. To celebrate that, we wanted to capture the spirit of Il San Pietro in an emotion expressed through an image to keep forever.”

The result is a limited-edition postcard: a delicate, dreamlike illustration that reflects the soul of the hotel. More than a souvenir, it’s a love letter to what Il San Pietro has always been, and what it continues to aspire to be.

After the pandemic disrupted plans to celebrate its 50th anniversary, this year’s occasion carried even deeper meaning. The festivities honoured over five decades of unforgettable moments, challenges met, and successes earned with passion and perseverance.

Guests were treated to a day of joy and enchantment: theatrical performances throughout the property, live music on the sunset terrace, and traditional Neapolitan pastries to sweeten the evening. As the night fell, the celebration culminated in the iconic midnight fireworks; now a luminous tradition of the Positano summer.

Now recognised as one of the finest hotels in the world, Il San Pietro di Positano is home to a Michelin-starred restaurant, one of the most spectacular tennis courts anywhere, and a legacy of refined hospitality that spans 55 years. Behind it all is a devoted team and a family whose passion, vision, and care have transformed the property into something truly extraordinary, not just a place to stay, but an experience to remember.
