One Pata tour operator member commented that year-on-year growth of approximately 27% has been observed for Asia and Oceania, with Thailand leading the way. The top-selling destinations for this year are expected to be Thailand, Australia, Indonesia, Singapore, and Malaysia. Last-minute departures in January, February, and March are particularly strong, followed by July, October, and November.
Thailand’s success already this year, along with Vietnam was echoed by another Pata tour operator member, adding that Thailand and Vietnam were leading in terms of bookings in the first few weeks of January. Late bookings for the next two months and winter repeaters booking immediately after returning home are contributing to the positive outlook. Vietnam has benefited from improved air lift and flexible multi-entry visas. However, Malaysia and Indonesia have seen less interest. The shoulder and low seasons from April to September still have room for improvement, and agents are advised to secure air tickets early as demand continues to exceed supply. Many hotels in the region offer early booking benefits that enhance the customer’s holiday experience.
Pata’s travel trends report 2024 further supports the positive outlook for the year. The report, based on surveys of Pata members, highlights 10 key trends shaping travel in 2024, including new hotel openings, tours, and increased airlift and capacity.
Overall, the strong sales and positive outlook for Pacific Asia in 2024 make it an attractive destination for travellers and Pata’s advice is for travel agents to take advantage of the early booking benefits offered by hotels and secure air tickets in advance to meet the high demand. Insights also show passengers are willing to spend more on their accommodation, booking higher room categories, villas, and longer lengths of stay which means there is greater opportunity for increased margins.
