This comes ahead of the European Union’s Empowering Consumers for the Green Transition (ECGT) Directive, which comes into effect on 27 September 2026 and which aims to combat greenwashing through unsubstantiated environmental claims. B Lab’s V2 Standards incorporate independent, third-party verification and objective certification procedures.

The new standards replace the previous B Corp points-based assessment model. Instead, there are mandatory performance requirements across B Lab’s seven Impact Topics, including Climate Action, Human Rights, Fair Work and Justice, Equity, Diversity & Inclusion. This provides a clearer and more transparent framework and ensures certification is based on real systems, accountability, evidence and continual improvement, which are embedded across all business areas.

Intrepid’s certification covers 93 entities and 94 countries including its Stay Intrepid portfolio of owned accommodation properties in Australia and Morocco. These formed part of the B Corp assessment for the first time and meant that Intrepid had to demonstrate high standards of environmental operations across areas such as water management, waste, and circular systems.

“B Corp Certification has never been a badge for Intrepid. It is a framework that helps us keep improving,” says Intrepid CEO, James Thornton. “The new standards set a higher bar, at exactly the moment the world needs companies to do more.”

“We haven’t changed to meet these criteria, but we have made improvements, embedded policies deeply, and ensured we have systems in place to support these across all parts of our global operations,” he adds.

Intrepid became B Corp certified in 2018 and has consistently gone on to achieve record financial and impact results since then (excluding the pandemic years), growing on average 20% per year. At the same time, it has consistently invested in Impact and embedded responsible practices in areas, including human rights, worker policies, supplier engagement, climate advocacy, and community investment, including through The Intrepid Foundation.
