From celebrity appearances to happy hours, we round up what’s going on at the stands at WTM London 2019.

Oyo Hotels arrived in the UK a year ago. Its properties are already available for agents to book via Hotelbeds, but a new UK partnerships team is to develop direct links with the trade.

Galway, 2020’s European Capital of Culture, has a Game of Thrones studio tour opening, while next autumn will see the Taste the Island gastronomy event. Northern Ireland’s new branding will also be revealed at WTM London.

 

VISIT WALES (UKI100)


Visit Wales will host a tasting session featuring regional goodies on the stand from 16:30 on Monday. Wales Coast Path will reveal 50 new itineraries for 2020 designed to help operators and agents set up hiking packages more simply.

 

ENCORE TICKETS LTD (UKI210)


Encore has expanded into the US and for the first time offers a one-stop theatre shop for Broadway and West End shows, allowing agents to book blockbusters such as Wicked, The Lion King and The Phantom of the Opera in both cities.

 

VISIT SOMERSET (UKI100)


Exmoor national park is now accessible by train thanks to Great Western Railway’s first new route in more than 40 years, in collaboration with the heritage West Somerset Railway. Visitors can now travel directly from London or Birmingham in under three hours.


DUBAI PARKS AND RESORTS (ME300)

QATAR NATIONAL TOURISM COUNCIL (ME100)


Qatar gained an extra 17 UK flights a week this year. At WTM London, you can hear the latest on preparations for the Fifa World Cup 2022. Also learn more about Qatar’s new National Museum, which opened in March. There will be activities to help showcase Qatar’s culture.

 

JORDAN TOURISM BOARD (ME140, ME150)


EasyJet has doubled its flights to Aqaba from Gatwick from October until 28 March. Developments in the region include new resorts Ayla and Saraya Aqaba, Jordan’s first 18-hole championship golf course and an underwater military museum. There’s also a Jordan adventure- themed agent training day on 7 November.

Neom in Saudi Arabia will be showcasing its natural assets through a 360° immersive video experience. Get among its white sandy beaches, pristine desert and rugged mountains by visiting the stand.

BAHRAIN TOURISM & EXHIBITIONS AUTHORITY (BTEA) (ME550)


Find out more about the world’s largest underwater theme park opening in Bahrain featuring a 70-metre long Boeing 747, a replica of a Bahraini pearl merchant’s house, artificial coral reefs and other sculptures. The Middle East’s only island nation is also celebrating the listing of a new Unesco world heritage site.

Air Europa’s UK team will be out in force at WTM London to promote its 24 Latin American destinations, plus the US.

It will invite stand visitors to learn about its increasing number of ski resorts as well as the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games. You can also taste sake, Japanese tea and sweets at the stand.

Asia Pacific specialist Tour East has launched e-books and a newsletter to help sell its Asia and Pacific destinations.

 

Both tools are designed to guide the trade through the plethora of information offered online, using Tour East’s expert insights on experiences, hotels and promotions.

Okinawa in Japan comprises 160 islands. Find out about a wave of new luxury hotels that have opened on its Miyako islands in the past year.

SHERATON MALDIVES FULL MOON RESORT & SPA (AS140)

Find out about the resort’s continuing $20 million renovation, which will add a refurbished spa on a private island with multiple pools, gardens and a private yoga area.


New three-day spa packages are also available and the whole resort has been refurbished to give it a more Maldivian feel.

THE WESTIN MALDIVES MIRIANDHOO RESORT (AS140)


The Westin has recently introduced a different wellness focus for each month, with specialist practitioners visiting the resort for different themes.

Catch happy hour from 16:00 on Monday and Tuesday to find out about the board’s new promotional campaign and hear about St Michael’s Cave, which uses mapping technology to tell stories about the destination’s history.

CATALAN TOURIST BOARD (EU400)

Catalonia will be promoting the Year of Sports Tourism 2020, encouraging tourists to catch events including the 100th annual La Volta cycling race and to try canoeing, swimming, motor sports and mountain biking.

CZECH TOURIST AUTHORITY – CZECHTOURISM (EU1700)

CzechTourism will present a new stand for their 2020 campaign celebrating castles and alternative cities.

 

Find out about two new Unesco World Heritage sites: the Krusnohori mining region and horse breeding centre the National Stud Farm in Kladruby nad Labem.

Join the Iceland team from 13:00 to 15:00 on Wednesday for a virtual reality immersion that will take you beyond the well-known attractions, with the chance to experience the island’s exciting horse corral.

 

Also learn about the new Arctic Coast Way and the lesser-visited areas of the west, Westfjords, the north and the east.

PALLADIUM HOTEL GROUP (EU940)

Spain’s leading hotel company will be showcasing its expansion with three new hotels announced for 2020 in Sicily and Menorca.

 

This follows the opening of three new hotels in 2019: Bless Hotel Madrid, Bless Hotel Ibiza and Palladium Hotel Costa del Sol.

PARC ASTERIX (EU300)

Parc Asterix will celebrate the launch of new accommodation les Quais de Lutece, opening in 2020. This year the French theme park marked its 30th anniversary and added a 4D cinema.


It is also extending its Christmas festivities.

Its second phase has added a family-friendly restaurant, which screens games and hosts live music.

Learn about the launch of the Malta Tourism Authority’s first comprehensive trail booklet for tourists.

 

Next year is also the year of sustainability for Malta, building on the success of recent initiatives such as summer music festival Summerdaze reducing waste by at least 70%.

RABBIE’S TOURS (UKI120)

Rabbie’s European Trails will take guests off the beaten track in France, Spain, Portugal, Italy and Switzerland.

 

In the UK, new tours for 2020 will explore the country’s craft beer, wine and gin.
