From 1 April 2025 British passport holders need a visa to visit Namibia. The Namibian authorities have launched a visa-on-arrival scheme, which is extended to UK passport holders.
There are a number of flight options from the UK and Ireland to Namibia’s Windhoek Hosea Kutako International Airport (WDH), with either British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, Ethiopian Airlines, or Lufthansa.
Clients can depart from London Heathrow, Gatwick, Manchester, Edinburgh, Glasgow or Dublin.

Namibia offers a wide variety of accommodation types, from urban hotels in Windhoek to remote safari lodges and desert retreats. Prices range from £80 for mid-range to £600+ for eco-luxury. New openings include premium options from Naankuse Collection, Ondili Lodges and O&L Leisure. Eco-lodges are increasingly popular, combining sustainable practices with high-end design in areas like Sossusvlei, Damaraland and the Skeleton Coast. Many of the more exclusive and luxury resorts provide unrivalled seclusion and serenity, with private plunge pools and rooms with panoramic views overlooking the plains. Top-tier resorts can assist with wildlife encounters, stargazing opportunities and offer luxury spa facilities for their clients.
A distinctly Namibian experience, guest farms blend rustic charm with warm hospitality. Often family-run, they offer insight into local life, farm-to-table dining and outdoor activities such as hiking or horseback safaris. Found mostly in central and northern regions, rates typically range from £40-£150 per night.
Ideal for self-drive and budget-conscious travellers, camping options range from basic campsites to luxury ensuite tents. These are widely available across the country, with rates from £10-£60 per night. Some campsites are set within private reserves.
The best time to visit Namibia depends on what you want to experience, as the country offers something unique in every season.
The dry season is widely considered the best time for wildlife viewing, especially in Etosha National Park, as animals gather around sparse waterholes and the weather is cool and clear – perfect for safaris and photography. May and June offer pleasant temperatures and fewer tourists, while September and October bring exceptional game viewing with warmer weather.
The "wet" or "green" season transforms the landscape, bringing dramatic thunderstorms, lush greenery and fantastic birdwatching opportunities – especially in the Caprivi Strip. Though some roads may become less accessible during heavy rains, this season also sees fewer visitors and lower prices, and offers a chance to witness baby animals and blooming wildflowers. For those seeking solitude, striking scenery and vibrant skies, the green season is a hidden gem.

The Kavango-Zambezi Transfrontier Conservation Area (KAZA) spans five countries and is rich in biodiversity. Travel with eco-certified operators that respect cross-border conservation efforts and help protect vital elephant migration routes and wetlands.
Namibia is one of the dryest countries in sub-Saharan Africa. Use water mindfully: take short showers, reuse towels and avoid unnecessary laundry during your stay. Avoid plastic, bring reusable water bottles, bags and containers. Many lodges provide filtered water and encourage refillable bottles to reduce waste in fragile desert eco-systems.
Consider lodges that are solar-powered, use greywater recycling and composting toilets, or have received sustainability certification (e.g. Eco Awards Namibia). These establishments often work closely with local communities and invest in conservation.
Take time to understand the traditions of Namibia’s many ethnic groups, including the Himba, Herero, San and Damara. Always ask before photographing people and dress modestly when visiting rural communities.
Book experiences through companies that directly contribute to conservation, like those supporting Save the Rhino Trust or Cheetah Conservation Fund. Some offer "voluntourism" options for hands-on involvement.
Purchase souvenirs directly from artisans or certified Fairtrade markets, ensuring income goes to the makers rather than middlemen. Look for wood, stone or woven goods made using traditional techniques.
If self-driving, stay on designated roads to avoid damaging fragile desert crusts or disturbing nesting birds and plants.
If camping, don’t collect wood from the environment. it’s essential for locals and wildlife. Use provided or purchased firewood and consider fuel-efficient stoves or alternative energy options.
