KLM Royal Dutch Airlines is celebrating 60 years of flying between Birmingham Airport (BHX) and Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, marking six decades of connecting Midlands travellers with destinations worldwide.
Since launching its first service in 1966, KLM has become a longstanding airline partner at BHX. Today, the airline operates up to five daily flights to Amsterdam, providing convenient onward connections to more than 160 destinations worldwide.
The route supports both leisure and business travel, with booking data from January to August 2026 highlighting strong demand for European destinations including Germany, Denmark, and Sweden. Further afield, Thailand, South Africa, Nigeria, and Ghana are among the most popular long-haul markets.
The service also plays an important role in inbound tourism and business travel, connecting visitors from Europe, North America, and Africa with Birmingham and the wider Midlands.
Jerome Salemi, General Manager Air France-KLM UK & Ireland, said: "This significant milestone reflects our long-standing commitment to the Midlands. We are proud to have played a part in connecting the region with the rest of the world, whether travelling for business, exploring new destinations or visiting loved ones."
Andrew Pelham, Head of Airline Relations at Birmingham Airport, added: "It is fantastic to be celebrating 60 years of partnership with KLM. The airline has provided Midlands passengers with a direct gateway to Amsterdam and onward travel through its extensive worldwide network of connections."
Tobias Morter, Business & Travel Trade Executive at Birmingham Airport, said: "KLM has been an important partner for the Midlands travel trade for six decades, and it's fantastic to celebrate this milestone together.
"With up to five daily flights and connections to more than 160 destinations, the airline continues to provide agents with a huge range of opportunities for their customers, from European city breaks to long-haul holidays and business travel."
