Launching on Wednesday 23rd June 2027, the seasonal service will operate twice weekly on Wednesdays and Saturdays until 23rd October 2027, using Air Transat's Airbus A321LR aircraft.
The new route will provide the Midlands with a non-stop connection to Canada's largest city, removing the need for passengers to travel via other UK airports or international connecting hubs.
The announcement responds to established demand for travel between the Midlands and Canada, with approximately 10,000 passengers travelling indirectly between Birmingham and Toronto in 2025.
Demand spans leisure, business, and visiting friends and relatives (VFR) markets, providing travel agents with opportunities to reach a broad range of customers.
Beyond Toronto, passengers will benefit from onward connections through Air Transat's partnership with Porter Airlines, including Vancouver, Montréal, Calgary, and Edmonton. This opens up further opportunities for agents to create multi-centre itineraries, Canadian touring holidays, and trips combining city breaks with the country's natural attractions.
Toronto itself offers a diverse range of experiences, from the CN Tower and Royal Ontario Museum to its thriving food scene, cultural attractions, and sporting events. The city also provides a convenient starting point for exploring Ontario, including Niagara Falls.
The announcement builds on Birmingham Airport's continued international network development, following a record 13.7 million passengers in 2025, and reinforces its commitment to expanding direct connectivity from the Midlands.
With Canada remaining a popular destination for UK travellers, the introduction of direct flights from Birmingham will provide travel agents with another option when planning holidays, visiting friends and relatives, and tailor-made itineraries across North America.
