The budget airline’s cancellations affect more than 10,000 travellers set to take off from Gatwick today, according to The Independent.
The day’s only flights to Sicilian capital Palermo and Olbia in Sardinia have been cancelled, alongside routes to the Red Sea Riviera resort of Hurghada from Gatwick and Manchester.
Flights to Faro in the Algarve, the island of Malta, the Italian cities of Milan, Rome and Pisa, and the Spanish cities of Seville and Alicante, are also affected.
A handful of easyJet flights from Bristol, Luton and Glasgow have been cancelled too.
Wizz Air has also grounded flights to Faro, and British Airways has scrapped departures to Amsterdam and Sicilian city Catania from Gatwick today.
The cancellations follow weeks of aviation disruption due to staff shortages as the summer travel season gets under way.
