Local authorities are thought to have made just 49 arrests on Sunday (2 July) compared to more than 2,000 across the previous two days.
According to The Guardian, the ease came following an appeal for calm from the grandmother of the 17-year-old who was shot during a police traffic stop.
President Emmanuel Macron is now set to meet the leaders of both houses of parliament on Monday (3 July) before he sits down on Tuesday (4 July) with the mayors of 220 towns and cities affected by the protests.
Last week the UK Foreign Office warned many of the protests turned violent, with shops, public buildings and parked cars being targeted. It advised some local authorities may impose curfews.
