The man, in his 50s, has been banned by the airline for life after his actions last week led to the flight being diverted to Faro. The airline said the man behaved aggressively onboard and illicitly consumed alcohol he had purchased in the airport. Sources confirmed to TTG that the passenger had urinated in the cabin.
“He also behaved in an intimidating fashion towards crew and other customers onboard, including even children,” Jet2 said. After the man was offloaded, passengers had to disembark in Faro so the aircraft could be cleaned before continuing to Tenerife.
“As well as causing a delay to customers looking forward to their well-deserved holidays in Tenerife, this also meant customers due to travel back to Glasgow from Tenerife had to spend another night in-destination due to the late arrival of the aircraft," the airline continued.
Jet2 said it would "vigorously pursue” the unruly passenger for recovery of all costs incurred by the diversion, adding this was “likely to be a five-figure sum”.
“These costs include hotel accommodation for all customers and crew in Tenerife, airport charges, fuel costs, and cleaning costs. The airline has also confirmed that it will assist the authorities with any action they wish to take.”
Phil Ward, the airline’s managing director, added: “As we have done before, we will now vigorously pursue [the passenger] for all the costs that we incurred as a result of this diversion, as well as banning him for life.”
Ward described the man’s behaviour as "absolutely disgraceful", adding the airline wished to apologise for the impact the man’s actions had on other passengers. "We take a zero-tolerance approach to such behaviour."
