Monty Halls, a broadcaster, marine biologist and former Royal Marine, spent three months living in the Galapagos with his wife and two young children, to experience the wonders and challenges faced by his favourite place in the world.
A three-part series telling their story began on Channel 4 on Saturday (July 28), and continues for the next two weeks.
The Wildlife & Safari Travel Show is a new consumer travel show created by Debbee Dale, Lorraine Barnes-Burton and Chris Erasmus, taking place in Harrogate on September 29 and 30, 2018.
’An Evening With Monty Halls’ will take place the night before, on Friday September 28, in Harrogate’s Edwardian Theatre Royal. He will also perform the opening ceremony at the show the following morning.
On the Saturday evening, the theatre hosts an evening ’In Conversation With’ three guests: wildlife photographer and producer Sue Flood; zoologist and TV presenter Lucy Cooke; and diving expert and presenter Miranda Krestovnikoff.
Tickets for the two-day exhibition at Harrogate Convention Centre cost £8 in advance or £12 on the door. Tickets for the events in the Theatre Royal on Friday and Saturday night are sold separately, at £25 each, but also include a two-day pass to the exhibition. A donation of £1 from every £8 advance ticket will be donated to the show’s headline conservation charity partner, Tusk Trust.
More than 60 travel companies have now signed up to exhibit at the show, including the Belize and Botswana tourist boards, Audley Travel, Mahlatini Luxury Travel, Experience Travel Group, Exsus Travel, Rainbow Tours, Silversea, A Tent With A View, Avis and Wild Frontiers. The deadline for exhibitors to sign up is mid-August.
Alongside exhibitors, the show will also include a virtual reality theatre; a display of wildlife art created by celebrities for charity Sketch for Survival; a feature on marine conservation; and an Elephant Gin gin lounge. There is also a packed schedule of talks by wildlife experts, authors, photographers and broadcasters throughout the day on Saturday and Sunday.
The Wildlife & Safari Travel Show is offering agents and operators the chance to win one of two pairs of tickets worth £25 per ticket, to attend their choice of the Friday or Saturday events in the Theatre Royal, including access to the exhibition on both days.
Show director Dale said: "“We’ve been overwhelmed by the response from the travel industry to our first wildlife and conservation- themed exhibition, which demonstrates the need for a very focused show. With 6,000 pre-booked tickets already sold, it also shows the appetite from the buying public.
“We’re offering two agents and a companion the opportunity to attend as our guests, so that they too can be inspired by our world-class speakers, enjoy our exciting show features, and meet some amazingly passionate suppliers who can facilitate this kind of travel.”
She added: “Having watched Monty Halls’ brilliant new programme on Saturday, I am particularly excited to be welcoming him as a guest speaker on the Friday evening, and can’t wait to hear more about his incredible year in the Galapagos. It will be a wonderful kick-off to a brilliant weekend”
