Castillo has been replaced by the country’s first female president, Dina Boluarte, after Castillo was impeached.

"On 7 December 2022, the Peruvian president announced the closure of congress, the establishment of an exemption government, and a state of emergency," said the Foreign Office.

"The president was then impeached and replaced by a new president. It is a fast-moving situation and protests are likely. You should follow the authorities’ advice and monitor local media closely. Avoid large gatherings and protests."
