Thailand calls red list decision ‘devastating’ but hopes it will be ‘short-lived’

Thailand’s tourism authority has described the country’s move to the red list as “devastating news” and comes just as it reopens more beach resorts to international visitors.

Phuket has welcomed more than 3,000 UK visitors since reopening to international guests on 1 July

The southeast Asian destination was one of two countries, alongside Montenegro, to be moved from amber to red in Thursday’s (26 August) update because of higher Covid-19 infection rates. The change takes effect from 4am on Monday (30 August).
