Launching today (3 February), the programme asks candidates to build a sample sustainable travel itinerary and share their experiences with selling responsible tourism for the chance to become a TTG Sustainable Travel Ambassador in Training.
These 20 agents will take part in a networking and training event at TTG’s London offices, and a series of virtual workshops covering topics including carbon footprints, reducing emissions, identifying sustainable suppliers, avoiding greenwashing and marketing responsible experiences. They will also have the opportunity to join bespoke fam trips showcasing sustainable travel in action.
Once all training is complete, successful agents will be crowned TTG Sustainable Travel Ambassadors and unlock a suite of marketing assets to promote their new status.
The programme’s partners, also known as the TTG Sustainable Travel Heroes – easyJet holidays, Iberostar Hotels & Resorts and Intrepid – will share their knowledge and expertise in workshops designed and led by TTG, the UK’s only travel trade media business with B Corp status.
Iberostar and Intrepid are returning partners, while easyJet holidays is involved for the first time this year.
“We’re so excited to showcase some of the brilliant collaboration taking place in our destinations, giving travel agent partners first-hand experience of how we’re working hard to have a more positive impact on the people and places that make our holidays so special,” said Matthew Callaghan, chief operating officer at easyJet holidays.
Finn Ackermann, chief commercial officer at Iberostar, added: “We are fully committed to supporting travel agents in this journey, ensuring they are always up-to-date on our latest initiatives related to responsible tourism.”
Joanna Reeve, head of business development and partnerships at Intrepid, last year accompanied TTG Sustainable Travel Ambassadors in Training on one of the operator’s South Africa itineraries, and plans to offer an exclusive fam trip to the new agent group in 2025.
“In true Intrepid style, agents can expect their fam trip to be led by the best local leader and with a small group of like-minded agents,” she said. “They will see projects that empower and give back to the communities we visit – more details coming soon!”
