The Lufthansa-owned carrier had an on-time performance (OTP) of 88.6 per cent in March, putting it just ahead of LOT Polish Airlines at 88.3 per cent, according to figures published by aviation analyst Cirium.
ITA Airways, Finnair and Iberia also made the top five best-performing European carriers with each achieving an OTP of more than 80 per cent in March.
Cirium’s figures also revealed that the number of cancelled flights in Europe during March rose by 65% compared to February’s figures.
The continent saw 14,405 cancellations last month – up from 8,713 affected flights in February. Europe’s figures were impacted by a series of strikes in Germany during March, which grounded flights from the country’s major airports.
Globally, the best airline for punctuality was Brazil’s Azul with an OTP of 89.9 per cent during March.
