Private jet company Air Partner has said it enjoyed a 23% surge in last-minute bookings from UK customers for travel over the August bank holiday period.
The aviation firm, which is based next to Gatwick airport, said Spain’s Balearic islands and Greece proved to be the most popular destinations for a late-summer break.
For couples, the top destinations for Air Partner were the southern Italian destinations of Sorrento and Capri, which both “witnessed heightened interest”.
The islands of Corsica and Sardinia, alongside the French Riviera gateway of Nice, were also popular with clients who used Air Partner flights to join up with chartered yachts sailing in the Mediterranean.
Air Partner added that it had also benefited from an “unprecedented spike” in bookings for the day of the solar eclipse (August 21) as customers chartered flights to get “unrivalled views of the rare, striking spectacle”.
The company, which is listed on the London Stock Exchange, has access to more than 7,000 private jets around the world and can depart from more than 50 airfields in the UK.
It said it works “closely with travel agents and concierge companies to help support them with private jet requirements” and with travel management companies to arrange business flights.
